A Young Voice Fighting For a Better Sligo

Working for you in Sligo and Strandhill...

About Blaine Gaffney

I am a 30 year old Parliamentary Assistant, local business owner and a Peace Commissioner for Co. Sligo.

Since graduating from Queen's University Belfast in 2013, I have worked at both the European Parliament and Dáil Éireann in my role as a Parliamentary Assistant. I qualified with a Master's Degree in Irish Politics.

I currently live in Strandhill with my wife Danielle and our cat Lana, having moved to the village from Sligo town in 2019. We are expecting our first baby in October. My mum and dad are Mary and Declan Gaffney. In my spare time away from the cut throat world of politics, I am a company director of 'Lillies Cocktail Bar' in Sligo.

For those of you who don’t know me, I am just an ordinary young hardworking person who is passionate about seeing my hometown develop and improve and ultimately I want to be someone who takes a lead in this approach.

Last year, I contested the '2019 Local Election' in the Sligo - Strandhill ED, narrowly missing out on a seat on Sligo County Council at my first attempt. I was unfortunately the first candidate in the history of the State not to be elected in the Sligo - Strandhill ED with a first preference vote percentage of 10.8% and 921 Number 1 votes. On the day it also transpired that I was the candidate with the second highest vote percentage in the country to miss out on a seat.

It was a terribly disappointing result to take. However, I have learned from it and my team and I are eager to set the record straight in 2024.

Since becoming politically active I have been working hard on the ground assisting people, promoting good causes and helping organisations to develop.

So if you or your family need any help or assistance whatsoever, be it road or footpath repair, passports, housing applications, energy grants, public lighting provision, planning applications, social welfare, residents associations issues, broadband problems, medical cards, immigration, political representation or any other non routine constituent query, do not hesitate to get in touch.

Are You Registered to Vote in Sligo?

At election and referendum time it is important to know if you are registered to vote? Have you or someone you know just turned 18 and want to register for the first time? Are you a new resident in Ireland seeking a vote? Or have you simply changed address recently and need the register updated?

Why not check online HERE to find out?

If you are not on the register of electors in Sligo, you can download the 'RFA' registration form HERE.

Simply fill it out and send it to the Corporate services Section of Sligo County Council in Riverside, Sligo. Easy right?

In November of each year the county register is updated, so all the changes to it are expected to take place  during this month for the following year.

The deadline is the 25th of November.

You can get in contact with me if you have any questions or need any assistance with registering. I'd love to help you out.
