HELLO,
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME!
I am a 33 year old public affairs consultant, local business owner and a Peace Commissioner for Co. Sligo.
Since graduating from Queen's University Belfast in 2013 with a Master's Degree in Irish Politics, I have worked at The European Parliament, Dáil Éireann and the Department of Health in Parliamentary Assistant and Parliamentary Advisor roles.
I live in Strandhill with my family, having moved to the village from Sligo town in 2019. My mum and dad are Mary and Declan Gaffney from Sligo. In my spare time away from work, I am a company director of the ever popular 'Lillies Cocktail Bar' in Sligo Town. For those of you who don’t know me, I am just an ordinary young hardworking person who is passionate about seeing my hometown develop and improve and ultimately I want to be someone who takes a lead in this approach. I am passionately positive about Sligo both in person and in the media as I believe there can be too much negativity being expressed about our great town and our people.
In 2019, I contested the 'Local Election' in the Sligo - Strandhill ED for the Fine Gael Party, narrowly missing out on a seat on Sligo County Council at my first attempt in an election. I was unfortunately the first candidate in the history of the State not to be elected in the Sligo - Strandhill ED with a first preference vote percentage of 10.8%. On the day, I was the last candidate standing with 1,100 votes and I eventually missed out on a seat by just over 30 votes. Despite being disappointed about about the result, I was delighted to have been the highest polling Fine Gael candidate in the election on first preferences and to have learned so much from it for the future.
Since 2013, I have been working hard on the ground in Sligo assisting people, promoting good causes and helping organisations to develop. So if you or your family need any help or assistance whatsoever, be it road or footpath repair, passports, housing applications, energy grants, public lighting provision, planning applications, social welfare, residents associations issues, broadband problems, medical cards, immigration, political representation or any other non routine queries.
So if you have an issued do not hesitate to get in touch.
Blaine
