New Mental Health Strategy Aimed at Combating Suicide in Sligo Will Be Launched This Month
It has been announced that a new mental health strategy aimed at combating suicide in Sligo will be launched by the HSE later this month.
The new plan for Sligo and Leitrim has been developed in accordance with the 'Connecting for Life' National Strategy to reduce suicide nationwide (2015-2020).
"I believe that this new approach being taken by the HSE to combat suicide in Sligo is very welcome as I feel that every effort needs to be made by our health service and Government in order to help to combat the stigmas associate with mental health in this country. We also need to put more services in place to better support those who may feel under pressure in their lives as well as developing an improved understanding of the signs associated with mental health.
"I believe that our young people and men in particular need special attention in this new strategy".
The seven goals of the National Strategy which are as follows;
Better understanding of suicidal behaviour.
Better data and research.
Supporting communities to prevent and respond to suicidal behaviour.
Targeted approaches for those vulnerable to suicide.
