SLIGO PEACE COMMISSIONER
Blaine was appointed as a Peace Commissioner for Co. Sligo and its neighbouring countries by the Minister for Justice and Equality Frances Fitzgerald T.D. in November 2016.
A Peace Commissioner is an honorary position in the Republic of Ireland which has special powers. A Peace Commissioner is primarily used to issue summons and warrants, witness signatures on documents, take statutory declarations and sign certificates and orders.
Peace commissioners can also issue search warrants to the Gardaí and sign special orders under various Acts of the Oireachtas. The Courts of Justice Act 1924 gives Peace Commissioners the power to issue summons and warrants.
